Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction-MBSR

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction was founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts in 1990 and after being featured on Bill Moyers’ PBS series “Healing and The Mind” it has spread throughout the world.

Dr. Abramson practice of meditation and integration of this practice in a medical setting resonated with Jon’s use of this practice as a medical treatment.

Dr. Abramson took MBSR classes from Bob Stahl at el Camino Hospital three times to get experience in this form of training and started a program at Sequoia and Kaiser Hospitals in Redwood City. He then founded the program in 1995 at Stanford Hospital and Medical School.

Mindfulness is defined as non-judgmental awareness and is the core practice in meditation training.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction-MBSR has been extensively researched and many studies have been run through the Stanford class including PhD thesis.

Classes run every quarter at Stanford University.
